Cardboard Box was Invented Mistakenly
In 1879 an employee of a paper factory in New York did not saw that the printing rule was too high and, as per the record, he cut thousands of bags of seeds rather than folding them. Instead of throwing them away and stopping production, the owner of the company realized that by altering the height of the sharp blades he could have achieved a different result. Post the accident, he notices that cutting and folding cardboard at some point actually formed prefabricated boxes. Until then, making boxes was a criterion that needed time and money and for this reason, they were used simply for luxury products. Now, cardboard boxes could be made in series, making it economical. In the same year, the entrepreneur patented a machine that made folded boxes.
